Vienna
Anker Clock - The Anker Clock “performs”
each day at noon. As the clock chimes, the figures
representing all the different Centuries of Vienna
history, showing the relevant costumes and with background
music – many of the figures are recognisable
historical figures.
The Anker Clock is on a building
owned by the Anker Insurance Company and was built
in 1913. You can get to the Hoher Markt
by walking north from Stephansplatz and after two
blocks turning left.
HOHER MARKT
This is the oldest Square in Vienna
and in it is a Fountain, the Fountain of The Newly
Weds. It was built by Emperor Leopold in honour of
his son Joseph I when he returned from battle. A later
version of the fountain shows the marriage of Joseph
and Mary.
A tiny “Museum” shows the remains of
two Roman Houses. These were discovered after a bomb
raid in 1945.
